Bio

Hi! I’m Mika, a Johns Hopkins electrical engineering student who’s passionate about helping students actually understand what they’re learning, and not just cram for tests. Through trial and error, I developed my own approach to studying that focuses on identifying gaps in understanding and tackling concepts from multiple perspectives until they really click. This approach has really helped me tackle even the hardest subjects with confidence, and it’s exactly what I bring to tutoring.

In high school, I served as a color guard captain, where I learned how to break complex skills into clear, manageable steps. Teaching and motivating teammates helped me quickly pinpoint where someone was struggling and explain ideas in a way that felt less overwhelming and more achievable.

I’ve since used these skills to guide peers through different subjects, often taking an active role in collaborative problem-solving and review sessions. What I find most rewarding is helping students reach their “aha” moment—when something that once felt confusing suddenly makes sense.

My goal is not only to help students improve grades and strengthen their academic profiles, but also to build confidence and curiosity. I encourage students to approach challenging problems like detectives: asking questions, exploring patterns, and enjoying the process rather than shying away from them. With patience, clear explanations, and encouragement, I aim to help every student feel capable and empowered in their learning.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have completed Algebra I with an A+, and my engineering major requires a strong command of algebraic concepts, including equations, inequalities, functions, and problem‑solving techniques, so I am confident in my ability to explain these topics clearly and adapt to each student’s learning style so they can build both skill and confidence in algebra.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have completed Algebra II with A and A+ grades and have continued to apply these skills in my major. Because of this background, I am very comfortable breaking down challenging problems into clear, manageable steps.
Biology

Biology

I completed AP Biology with an A− and earned a 5 on the AP exam, demonstrating strong mastery of college-level biological concepts. This background allows me to help students not only understand the material in depth but also develop the test-taking strategies needed to succeed in AP Biology.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I completed Chemistry with an A and later earned a score of 4 on the AP exam. My science and engineering background has trained me to approach problems systematically and explain challenging concepts in a clear, step-by-step way.
Chinese

Chinese

I am bilingual and fluent in both English and Chinese, and I earned an A+ in my Chinese class. Being able to speak, read, and write in Chinese allows me to help students with pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills. I can also explain difficult concepts in clear English when needed, making it easier for students to progress quickly and confidently in Chinese.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

Physical Science

Physical Science

I am an electrical engineering student with a strong foundation in physical science concepts. In high school, I completed AP Physics 1 and 2, earning a score of 4 on both exams. I have since taken college physics I and am currently taking college physics II. These courses have given me a solid understanding of mechanics, energy, waves, and electricity, which are central topics in physical science.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have completed Algebra I with an A+ and Algebra II with an A and an A+, and have continued to apply these skills in my major. Because of this background, I am very comfortable breaking down challenging problems into clear, manageable steps.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I scored a 1540 on the SAT, including a perfect 800 on the Math section. This score reflects a strong command of algebra, advanced math, problem-solving, and data analysis skills tested on the SAT. I can help students learn effective strategies, avoid common mistakes, and build the confidence they need to significantly raise their SAT Math scores.
